Botanical and cultivation features
Plant very long.
It has a wide, expanded, more or less glossy, wide-eyed crown with a rounded apex in a dome-shaped form of majestic appearance.
The insertion of the leaf is typically almost semi-sessile, with a short, slightly perceptible petiole. At the base of the leaf, at the point of attack on the ram, the margin forms two characteristic "asymmetrical" ear lobes.
The fruit, called the acorn, is a 2- to 4-inch ovoid or cylindrical "walnut", wrapped in a cupola with scattered and rounded scales. The acorns are either individually or in groups of two to four on a typical peduncle long up to 3-6 centimeters (a parameter to distinguish it from oak that has sessile acorns).
It's a fairly rustic oak.
It is a typical plain oak even if its area can be pushed up to 800-900 meters high.
In nature, form of pure forests or mixed associations, hence also for forresting.
It is a plant that can be used as a single specimen, even in the countryside, where it is an important shelter for useful organisms.
In many countries it is used as a tree of wood, although it is a little less valuable than oak congeners.
The fruit, especially in the past, was used to feed some animals (pigs).
In some areas, along with other oaks, it can form mousetrap with edible fungi, especially truffles.
