Il carpino bianco è un albero deciduo di medie dimensioni, ramificato dalla base con portamento piramidale o impalcato con chioma arrotondata. Tronco sinuoso con scanalature verticali, corteccia liscia grigia. Foglie con lamina ellittica e punta acuta, margine doppiamente seghettato, nervature molto incise; colorazione giallo oro in autunno. Le foglie e le infruttescenze secche rimangono sulla pianta per tutto l’inverno.
